Incoming Seventh Grade Kickoff Cancelled

LAKEVILLE, IN. - Each year for the past several years, LaVille Jr. High School has held a Seventh Grade Kickoff.  This has been a fun and worthwhile activity for all involved.

However, due to summer remodeling at both LaVille Elementary School and LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School, LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School principal Nate McKeand has decided to not hold the Seveth Grade Kickoff this school year.

"There are a few reasons for this decision," said McKeand.  "As you may know, both the elementary school and junior/senior high school are receiving extensive remodeling this summer. This renovation has included the main gymnasium, the majority of restrooms in the building and all classrooms in the upstairs and main hallway downstairs. These renovations will be amazing once completed, but are limiting what we can do with the building this summer.

"Physical space is a major factor for making this decision as we will not be able to access the upstairs at all and will not be able to get students access to their lockers to practice," continued McKeand.  "Navigating the rest of the building and accessing available restrooms could also pose a safety hazard for students. Knowing that this is a stressful time for students joining the junior/senior high school, we will put extra measures in place during the first days/weeks of school to make students feel comfortable."

According to McKeand, the resignation of Nancy Block as seventh, eighth, and ninth grade counselor was not necessarily the reason for canceling the Seventh Grade Kickoff.

"Mrs. Block was presented an opportunity to take a job in the school district where her husband works and children attend," explained McKeand.  "This was a good opportunity for her and her family, but has now forced us to find a new school counselor. We are currently accepting applications and will be filling this position soon. Being the junior high counselor, Mrs. Block was the main individual planning the 7th Grade Kickoff.

Due to several factors, Mr. McKeand said:  "I feel it is in the best interest of all to cancel the 7th Grade Kickoff this school year. We fully intend on offering it in the future as it has proven to be a worthwhile event for all involved. I will also take this as an opportunity to remind you about registration, which takes place on Tuesday, July 23rd from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Thank you and I hope you have been enjoying your summer!"
